Breville 800JEXL Juice Fountain Elite Review

My husband and I wanted a good quality juicer that we could use to make juice quickly and in large quantities.  For our purposes, the masticating juicers were not exactly what we were looking for at the time. After a lot of reading and research, the centrifugal Breville 800JEXL Juice Fountain Elite is what we decided on for our family of 6 fruit and veggie juice-guzzling individuals.

We have written this review to help others decide if this is the juicer they need. It is our real life experience based on three years of use ….

We need a lot of juice for our large family and we need it fast. We can’t be chopping and peeling for ages every day so we needed a centrifugal model that would produce lots of juice with a minimum of fuss. We wanted a durable machine we could use twice daily for morning and evening consumption.

To be honest I was in awe of this when it first arrived much to my husbands amusement.  It is a very solid and heavily built machine – the Godfather of Juicers perhaps…!

It has a sleek, kind of industrial look to it that fits in well in modern kitchens and it matches our stainless steel range cooker nicely.  So, lets have a look at it’s main features, it’s benefits and anything else we can think to say about it including downsides ….

High Powered Motor…..

It has a high powered (1000watt) motor which has two speed settings; low (6500 revs per minute) and high (13000 revs per minute);  which you can alternative between for the different types of fruit and vegetable ingredients you will be juicing – you will get to know which are better juiced fast and which are better slow as you become used to the juicing process.  In general, it is better to juice most things slowly for the ultimate juice extraction – but if you are in a rush in the mornings – then you can turn up the speed….

Good Looks ….

You cannot fail to be impressed by the highly durable die cast steel body; the heavy duty stainless steel wire mesh filter in the spinning chamber and titanium plated grating/chopping teeth and disk. This juicer means business.

Ease Of Use ….

It has a very good sized round feeder tube for your whole size fruits and veg to be fed into the spinning (centrifugal) chamber where all the chopping and grating takes place.

Clean Up ….

The residual pulp is spun through the mesh and out into the large hard plastic pulp collecting bin.  You can pop a (recyclable!)plastic bag in there and hook it over the sides of the bin so you can simply lift out your pulp and bin it afterwards – saves a little washing up – if you plan to juice more than once a day, you can leave the pulp in there until it is used for the last time as it is a very big container!   For cleaning up, it all comes apart very quickly and simply and all parts except the motor can go in the dishwasher if you wish, but do need a quick rinse first.

Secure Fittings ….

An easy clamp locking arm automatically adjusts up to 1/4″ all round to accomodate all parts and lock them together nice and tight.

Juice Collection ….

The pitcher jug is see thru thick plastic and a good size for juice collection. You do need to keep an eye on the marked full level as it needs to be tilted ever so slightly when removing it for pouring or storing and could result in spills. The defrother really works well to remove the foam if you dont like it, we just stir it in! If you want to make a huge amount of juice in one go, then stop the juicer before the jug is full, transfer the juice elsewhere (or drink it !) and then continue – easy!

Getting Started and Recipes ….

There is also a basic juice recipe book which arrives with the machine and you can download the manual with recipes from the product page as a PDF.  This will get you up and running with ideas.

Okay – thats the features and information covered ….  what are the benefits and what do WE think about this machine – really…?

As mentioned earlier we use it twice a day everyday. Sometimes we use it three times…  The juicer is fast and we mean fast.  It powers its way through a bunch or carrots or beetroot or parsnip with ease.  A whole head of celery? No problem…  Also, you can pack green leaves like spinach in between and around harder stuff and juice that too.

It is a little noisy, but just for two or three minutes, we don’t care about that! Rather that than stand there peeling and waiting and waiting and waiting some more for a quiet little masticator to do its stuff. It can leak/spit a little around the edge of the pulp collection container, more noticably when you have something very soft or bright like oranges, carrot or beetroot.  Adding the plastic bag seems to help a lot, sealing the very tiny gap that seems to be the cause. We wipe up around it only once a day and we have a white kitchen!  We have noticed one or two tiny spots on the ceiling once, but nothing to speak of and we use it very often.

We like to juice very soft fruits in it by squashing in with harder stuff. It juices more thoroughly and drier that way. It does a very good job of a pure citrus juice which the children like best producing a lot of quality juice very quickly.  We prefer easy peel tangerines or satsumas (the bigger the better) or easy peel oranges if you can find them.

Juice residue does build up on the parts of the machine, which will remain even after a hot dishwasher wash.  You need to be prepared to do a maintenance scrub with non abrasive cleaners now and then to keep it shiny and new looking. Of course any other juicer would need this to be done.

The pitcher jug can be replaced cheaply if it becomes too stained and it bothers you. We are on our second mesh filter, about three months ago it started to peel off the frame slightly at an edge where it was soldered. We contacted the manufacturer and it was replaced within a few days and still usable during that time anyway.  It took nearly three years of use for this to happen – which we think is excellent service.

It is still going strong and we do put it under pressure.  You could use this machine in a juice bar!

You need to be prepared to buy quite a lot of fruit, fairly often, but it is still cheaper than shop bought juice and ten times as nice.  Theres a lot of temptation to go a bit mad with fruit when you first get one, but after a few weeks this passes and you do become more sensible with a staple of juice ingredients you really do like.

On the whole it is a great machine, it has been given 4.5 stars by customers on and we would agree with that. Although there are a few people whose experience was not ‘ideal’, you should not be too concerned about that. It is clearly a very good quality machine which gets the job done efficiently.
